Lucy Hale, Actress

The show is called Pretty Little Liars for a reason. It’s a beauty show–people come for the fashion, they come to see what we look like, and it's not always realistic, you know? Everything is about the physical appearance, and that can be unhealthy. We all obsess about how we look, it’s human nature, but it’s sort of toxic if you’re not careful. It’s important for young girls to realize things like we have fake eyelashes on, some of us have extensions, we have good lighting. It’s the same thing as Photoshop! We are normal girls, we have zits, and it’s important that girls know that. I work with very beautiful people, don’t get me wrong, but there are a lot of tricks of the trade.

My everyday routine is actually very low-key—it takes me 10 minutes to wake up and get out the door. I usually wash my face, put concealer where I need it, mascara, maybe a little bit of blush or bronzer, and lip balm. For concealer I love Clé de Peau. It’s an investment, obviously, but it covers better than anything I’ve found. I'm fair-skinned, especially in the morning when I don’t have life to my face, so I use Mark Touch & Glow Shimmer All Over Face Palette to add color. I don’t like anything too heavy, too pigmented, or too cake-y, and I'm a big fan of Mark's products—that's why I work with them. They're also a really amazing company that stands for empowering women. They have this initiative called M.powerment which is about breaking the cycle of dating abuse for young women, which is way more common than people realize. My fan base is primarily young women, so it’s been great to expose them to that campaign—and obviously it’s not easy to talk about or ask for help.

The Mark lipstick I'm wearing is Vixen. I used to wear reds a lot, but now I’m into the maroons and burgundies and plums, more so for events and dinners—I’ve been venturing into a look that's more of a bare eye with a dark lip. On the show we do a lip quite a bit, too. My lip balm is Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment. I had a friend from Australia get me some, but now I can just order it on Amazon, and it’s pretty legit.

I have my dad to thank for my thick hair and my dark features. I mean, I haven’t always had brows like this—it was sort of like an evolution, but I do them myself. I have a fear of anyone touching them. Diorshow Brow Styler Brow Pencil in Universal Brown will pretty much fit anyone. For eyeshadow, the Dream Sequins Shimmering Eyeshadow Palette from Mark is the best. For people who travel it’s good to have it all in there, and it has the prettiest packaging they’ve ever done. I’m a beauty hoarder, I have so many products...from Duane Reade, Walgreens, Sephora, it’s just everything. It’s time to do a little cleaning-out.

My skincare routine takes a little bit of time, because I have sensitive skin. I’m a big believer in Dr. Lancer's products—he has a lotion, an exfoliator, and a face wash. At the end of a long day, wiping my makeup off and feeling so clean, it’s the best feeling in the world. And Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes can take anything off without irritating me. Go to bed in clean sheets with a clean face, your Mario Badescu Drying Lotion on, and you’re good to go.

For hair, I used to give myself a blowout and curl it, and that got exhausting, it’s a lot of work. Now I’ll let my hair air-dry because I like my natural texture. I have thick hair with a little bit of a wave and it’s heavy. It gets oil buildup in it really easily, so I have to have a clarifying shampoo—I use Fekkai Apple Cider Shampoo. I only wash my hair three times a week, and I swear on my life, Blow Pro Faux Dry is the best. For brunettes it’s hard to find dry shampoo because it makes your hair chalky, but this soaks everything right up without doing that.

Exercise for me now is SoulCycle—I’ve joined the cult! I used to be so against spinning, but I feel really strong while I’m doing it. Mentally it helps me, too. Even though you’re in a class with people—it’s still like you’re in your own little zone. There’s something about it that just works for me, mentally and physically, I just love it. Sometimes I work with a trainer, and I like to run. Luckily I’m not one of those people that hates exercise, but I also like food, so it works out.”
