How to Support Hormones, Boost Metabolism, and Lose Weight Naturally

Struggling to lose weight? Low energy? Low libido?

You're not alone.

My social media has been exploding lately with women who have voiced their struggles and frustrations with feeling fatigued, stressed, and overwhelmed with losing weight.

As a former RN, turned stay home single mom of 4 (after losing my young husband to colorectal cancer), I developed the ability to implement simple natural ways to help myself, and now other women in these areas.

Mastering my own feelings of overwhelm and energy levels became a necessary survival skill for me. Now, I encourage women who are also feeling lost, frustrated and overwhelmed with one simple psychology hack while making changes in their lives:

Keep it simple and enjoyable.

We often quit on our wellness goal and other life goals because we take on crazy weight loss or exercise regimes that are too complicated to stay consistent with. That's why I created a 5 simple tips to get started on your weight loss journey for busy women like me.

Also, because our hormones play such a huge role with how we feel, our energy levels, our food cravings, our mood, sex drive, and ability to lose weight, I wanted to dive a bit deeper in explaining what, why, and how adaptogens may help you with this.

Adaptogens are herbs that have been around forever it seems and used in both traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. You likely have heard of them but didn't know they do what they do when it comes to hormonal support, weight loss, stress, and energy.

Only recently these plants have started to become more mainstream and backed by research.

They have helped me personally with lowering stress, boosting energy, focus, and just feeling so good.

Adaptogens help the body "adapt" to stress at a hormonal level by helping balance the hypothalamic, pituitary, and adrenal glands.

*It's important to speak with your healthcare provider before taking any natural supplements, including adaptogens, especially if you have any medical conditions or on any medications.

  1. Ashwagandha - aka "Indian Ginseng." (1) (2) (3)

Benefits:

Stress

Weight Loss

Mood

Focus

Immune

System

Can be taken...

Powder, pill, or tincture form. Ashwagandha has a very strong taste so I personally prefer it in pill form. Best to be taken with black pepper to help increase the absorption. Take as directed.

2. Rhodiola - aka "the golden root." (4)

Benefits:

Stress

Fatigue

Mood

Weight Loss

Libido Booster

Can be taken....

Powder, pill, or tincture form. Rhodiola also has a very strong taste in powder form so I personally prefer it in pill or drop form. Take as directed.

3. Maca - aka "Peruvian Ginseng" (5)

Benefits:

Mood

Libido

May help with menopause symptoms

Can be taken...

Powder, pill, or tincture form. Maca also has a very strong taste but many people can handle it in their smoothies. I personally prefer it in drop form. Take as directed.

4. Ginseng - aka "Eleuthero or Siberian Ginseng" and "Panax Ginseng" (6)

Benefits:

Energy

Mental focus

Immune system

Fatigue

Can be taken...

Powder, pill, or tincture form. Ginseng has a more tolerable taste which is why some enjoy it in tea form. I also take this in drop form for convenience sake. Take as directed.

5. Astragulus (7)(8)

Benefits:

Stress

Anxiety

Immune system

Anti-inflammatory

Can be taken...

Usually taken in tincture form. I take it in drop form with my other daily adaptogens. Take as directed.

6. Tumeric - Contains active ingredient Curcumin (9)

Benefits:

Anti-inflammatory

Supports blood sugar levels

Mood

Can be taken...

Powder or pill form. Often mixed in teas but most commonly found in curries. Because it is poorly absorbed, it is best taken with black pepper.

In conclusion, reducing stress and boosting energy naturally makes you less likely to be emotionally eating and more likely to get active again. Supporting hormones and metabolism naturally goes along side with proper sleep, healthy eating, and regular physical activity. (10)
