5 Powerful Hacks For Hormones & Weight Loss

5 Powerful Hacks For Hormones & Weight Loss

Struggling with fat loss? Low energy? Stressed? Not feeling like the best version of yourself?

One word - Hormones.

Everyone is so obsessed with finding the perfect "diet" or workout plan that they end up not being able to stick to, especially if you're a busy mom trying to take care of your family.

After my husband passed away and I became a single mom of 4 little kids... at 35, I needed ways to easily and NATURALLY keep my energy up, stress down, and body feeling good.

I discovered through research and through practical experience being a mom, working as an RN previously, and through my own personal healing from trauma, that the key is keeping things so simple and enjoyable that it becomes your new lifestyle.

No more beating yourself up... No more diets... It's about feeding and loving the NEW YOU!

Interestingly, supporting hormones not only helps you lower stress levels like cortisol that make it harder to lose belly fat, but also helps boosts your energy, helps with mental clarity and focus, boosts libido, and boosts metabolism.

YESSSS!

Since incorporating this myself and teaching other women, I literally get messages daily of the progress women have been making.... weight loss, more energy, feeling inspired, less stress... making time for themselves... happier because they're not trying to do crazy dieting anymore.

These are the key areas I focus on for naturally supporting hormones that deal with metabolism, energy, libido, focus, mood, and stress.

It's like turning up your internal thermostat to burn more calories naturally.

1. Adaptogens
2. Thermogenic & Hormonal Support Foods
3. Intermittent Fasting
4. Resistance (Fun) workouts a few days a week
5. Rest & De-stress rituals

1. Adaptogens

Adaptogen herbs are plants that help the body "adapt" to stress. Backed by research they help support hormones, lower stress cortisol levels which helps the body burn off fat, they help support your immune system, and help boost energy levels.

I do not go a day without my adaptogens. They have helped me so much with stress, energy, and my metabolism. There's a wide variety of adaptogens and they include: Ashwagandha, Maca, Ginseng, Rhodiola, Astragalus, and Turmeric.

2. Thermogenic & Hormonal Support Foods

Thermogenic foods require more energy to digest and therefore produce heat while burning more calories in the body. I am a big fan of including thermogenic foods daily into my diet... burn calories while you consume them, it's awesome!

Hormonal support foods also provide the essential nutrients needed to maintain healthy hormone levels. (Thermogenic & hormonal support foods often are the same).

Here's a list of both thermogenic foods & hormonal support foods that can help boost your metabolism and help support your body to burn body fat.

Coconut MCT oil
Quinoa
Chicken breast
Green Tea
Capsaicin (Chili peppers, cayenne pepper, etc.)
Coffee
Avocados
Berries
Apples
Turmeric
Oats
Kale
Extra-virgin Olive oil
Salmon
Eggs
Adaptogens
Apple Cider Vinegar
Water
Brazil nuts
Flaxseed
Almonds
Chia Seeds
Sea Vegetables
Broccoli
Spinach
Brown Rice
Sweet Potatoes (yams)

3. Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting has become super popular because it's effective yet flexible for most people's busy schedules. It's when you go on a period of eating and fasting. Some simply skip breakfast while others go 8 hour eating "window," 16 hours fasting. You can also do 12 hours on, 12 hours off, or 10/14.

I personally do 10/14. I stop eating after kids and I have supper and a snack around 8pm and have my first meal next day around 10 or 11am. Do what works and feels best for you.

Benefits of intermittent fasting:

  • Boosts Human Growth Hormone which may help with fat loss and muscle gain
  • Promotes "Autophagy" which is the body's way of removing toxic proteins and recycling old proteins to regenerate healthy cells
  • Lowers insulin levels which may lead to weight loss

4. (Fun) Resistance Exercises

The key with workouts is you have to find a way to keep them simple and enjoyable so you stay with it. Do what you got to do so you'll stick with it, even if you have to work out at home like I often do. It'll boost your metabolism, reduce your stress, boost your happy hormones, and keep your body toned with fat burning muscle.

It's a must ladies, regardless of your age, so prioritize yourself and find ways to enjoy it so it becomes part of your new lifestyle.

Resistance training is better for weight loss compared to cardio because building muscle on your body helps your body burn more calories day and night. It's also important for keeping your bones strong, preventing depression, and boosting your immune system.

5. Rest & De-stress

Stubborn belly fat?

Stress increases a hormone called cortisol, which is released by adrenal glands. When cortisol levels are constantly high the following happens:

  • Triggers increased appetite (which is why we reach for comfort food when stressed)
  • More fat is deposited in the belly area
  • Metabolism is slowed
  • Blood pressure may increase

Have you ever felt like you have more junk food cravings and ravenous appetite when you're tired and stressed?

Lack of sleep not only makes you tired and grumpy, but can also contribute to weight gain because of how it affects hunger hormones Grhelin, Leptin, and Cortisol. All these hormones can increase your appetite when you're tired and not resting properly.

Getting sufficient sleep, meditating, exercise, learning techniques to relax, mind transformation, and daily self-care are all powerful ways to lower stress and cortisol levels.

After my husband passed away from cancer, I really focused on all these techniques to lower my stress levels as well as taking Ashwagandha daily which is backed by research to naturally lower cortisol levels.

Now I'm happier than ever!

Giving yourself permission to prioritize this daily will help you feel way better and your loved ones will benefit as a result.
